What is endoscopic brain surgery?

Endoscopic brain surgery, also known as endoneurosurgery, is a minimally invasive technique used to treat brain and skull base lesions through small incisions or natural openings, such as the nose. The neurosurgeon uses an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera and light) along with instruments designed for tight spaces, so the brain is handled as little as possible.

It’s used to remove tumors and cysts, treat certain cases of hydrocephalus, and repair traumatic defects or congenital anomalies of the skull base. For suitable patients, compared with traditional open surgery, it usually means less pain, minimal scarring, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster recovery.

In Costa Rica, Dr. Andrés Morales performs endoscopic brain surgery, after an individual evaluation of each patient.
