{"id":9648,"date":"2020-09-17T08:00:58","date_gmt":"2020-09-17T14:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drandresmorales.com\/?p=9648"},"modified":"2024-07-15T13:09:25","modified_gmt":"2024-07-15T19:09:25","slug":"what-is-a-stroke-and-what-are-its-symptoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drandresmorales.com\/en\/neurosurgery\/what-is-a-stroke-and-what-are-its-symptoms\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a stroke and what are its symptoms?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A cerebral infarction is the death of a part of the brain mass, caused by an obstruction of the blood vessels, which prevents the arrival of blood to an area of \u200b\u200bthe brain.<\/p>\n<p>This type of cerebrovascular event is called <a href=\"\/en\/vascular-surgery\/carotid-artery-disease\/\">ischemia<\/a>, and its cause is due to an abnormal phenomenon by which a clot forms in one of the cerebral arteries and obstructs it.<\/p>\n<p>The interruption or reduction of the blood supply to a part of the brain prevents the brain tissue from receiving oxygen and nutrients, due to which, the brain cells begin to die, within minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Without exceptions, a stroke is a medical emergency that demands immediate specialized care in order to reduce brain damage and disabilities. That is why it is so important to act quickly, when symptoms are perceived.<\/p>\n<p>Among the signs and symptoms that indicate a possible cerebral infarction are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confusion and difficulty for the person to articulate words and understand what is being said.<\/li>\n<li>Sudden paralysis or numbness in the face, arm, or leg, usually on only one side of the body.
